These wines are aged in smaller oak barrels than the common ones used for the ageing
and are called Barrique. The most widespread in Italy is the Barrique from Bordeaux,
with a capacity of 225 Liter. The word came from the French word bariques and it
was Italianized and is used to indicate this special ageing. The surface is smaller
and so the wine has much contact with the wood. In this way the wood gives the fine
aromas to the wine, for example caramel aromas and often vanilla scent. It is not
so common to talk about white wines barricati because the white wines spend less
time in barrique (few months). In any case the barrique will make the white wine
